Bach Pharma's Impact on the lives of Veterans

Bach Pharma's cutting-edge research and drug development has the opportunity to help change the lives of over 200,000 U.S. Veterans who served in the Persian Gulf War.

Gulf War Illness (GWI) is a chronic, multi-symptom health problem with an increasingly growingly unmet need. Over 200,000 veterans are afflicted with this disease from serving their country in the Gulf War.

GWI involves brain dysfunction, typified by memory and mood dysfunction, depression and anxiety. Characterized by reduced neurogenesis in the hippocampus, it can often develop into full blown ALS.

Most veterans contracted GWI during their time in war as it can enter the body through the nose, mouth, and skin. Exposure to chemicals such as anti-nerve gas vaccine, clothing saturated with DEET (a common inset repellant), tents treated with Permethrin, pollution from burning oil fields and overwhelming amounts of stress can all cause oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment.
